Used Nikon F 50mm f/1.4 Lens
The Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens, available in both AF-D and AF-S G versions, is a classic fast prime lens renowned for its versatility and performance in low-light conditions. The AF-D version, introduced in the late 1980s, features a 7-element, 6-group optical design, a 7-blade diaphragm, and a mechanical aperture ring, making it compatible with both film and digital Nikon F-mount cameras. It offers a minimum focusing distance of 0.45 meters and accepts 52mm filters. Weighing approximately 229 grams, this lens is appreciated for its compactness and affordability, often found used at reasonable prices. While it delivers pleasing bokeh and is effective in low-light scenarios, users may notice softness and chromatic aberrations when shooting wide open at f/1.4. Stopping down to f/1.8 or narrower significantly improves sharpness and overall image quality. The AF-S G version, released in 2008, incorporates Nikon's Silent Wave Motor for faster and quieter autofocus, a 9-blade rounded diaphragm for smoother bokeh, and a slightly updated optical formula of 8 elements in 7 groups. It omits the mechanical aperture ring, relying on electronic aperture control through the camera body. This version also has a minimum focusing distance of 0.45 meters, accepts 58mm filters, and weighs around 280 grams. While both versions are capable performers, the choice between them depends on the user's camera compatibility and preference for manual controls versus modern autofocus conveniences.
